Don’t Forget Your Smoke Alarm

Don’t Forget Your Smoke Alarm

Not only is your house a home that provides shelter for you and your family, but it is also an expensive investment worth protecting. Fire and smoke alarms are so prevalent that they can often be overlooked – which could be at the expense of the safety of your family. Here at SND, the ultimate electrical suppliers in Birmingham, we believe this is on oversight that can be easily, and cheaply, rectified.
What’s the point?

Many people don’t see the point in having a smoke alarm in their home; that they would know if something was wrong – but this isn’t always the case. Imagine if you will, a crying baby that won’t settle while you are cooking food for your elder child who is sneakily smoking a cigarette upstairs. In all the commotion, it is easy to get distracted. Food can burn, cigarettes can be hastily put out – but not fully – and all of a sudden, there’s a fire. All of this can be avoided with the addition of a smoke alarm.
Smoke alarms are designed to detect a suspicious amount of smoke, and providing you test them on a monthly basis, they will continue to alert you to any potential fire danger for at least ten years, when it is recommended you replace them.
In 50% of reported cases of house fires, no smoke alarms are present. Recognising an element of smoke in the house before it has a chance to start a fire – the damage of this can be emotional as well as physical – can be the difference between life and death.

Be Aware

Ideally, you should have a smoke alarm in every bedroom and sleeping space in your house, as well as outside bedrooms and on every floor of your home. This might seem excessive, but protecting your family from fire should be high on your list of priorities.
Many smoke alarms are battery powered – be careful to check the batteries still work on a monthly basis or consider switching to a mains powered alarm for added peace of mind.
SND are primarily electrical suppliers in Birmingham and the surrounding areas, as well as the rest of the UK, but we can also provide smoke alarms , lighting, security and extractor fans, too. Contact us today for more information on how we can help you protect your home.
